Participants of the Peer Worker Information Day impressed with our course structure
What is the Peer Worker Information Course?
The Peer Worker Course is designed for people who have experienced mental illness and want to help others on their road to recovery.
Peer Worker Course Information Day
Last Friday, the Rise mental health team held its information session for our Introduction to Peer Work course. It was presented by Peer Support Worker Michael Akkermans. Michael was a recent finalist for the St John of God Health Care Mental Health Employee of the Year Award last year.
The information session had a fantastic turn out of 24 people. Rise will then choose 12 selected people, who will be invited to participate in the full course which will run for 6 weeks.
Benefits of the course
Invited participants stated that they were really looking forward to commencing the course. It has also given them hope, and a potential opportunity to eventually gain long term employment in the mental health sector.
Participates commented that it was a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. They were also impressed with the professional structure of the course.
Our lucky 12 will look forward to starting the course this week!
