CEO Sleepout raises funds for homeless
Rise CEO Justine Colyer is set to shiver through a cold night to raise funds for the homeless.
The 2017 CEO Sleepout takes place on Thursday 22 June. The event raises money for St Vincent de Paul to assist the homeless.
CEOs from across the country spend a night outside in a sleeping bag on a piece of cardboard.
Ms Colyer has taken part in the CEO Sleepout since it began in WA in 2010. Ms Colyer said the event was a reminder that some people sleep rough through circumstance and not choice.
It takes CEOs away from our comfortable beds and gets us focused on raising funds for St Vinnies. All money raised on the night goes straight to providing services for those who are homeless. Rise clients are able to benefit from some of the services that St Vinnies provides.
Raising funds for homeless
Ms Colyer has a personal fundraising target of $5,000 for the event. Collectively, the event aims to raise $1million.
Where I live I walk past and chat to people who are homeless nearly every day. I find it appalling that in this day and age we still have people and children who are sleeping on the streets and in cars.
This is the only time during the year when I ask friends and colleagues for a donation to charity. You have overwhelmed me with your generosity in the past and I’m asking if you’d consider donating once more.
Ms Colyer said every donation, however small, made a difference and raised awareness of the issue. She also welcomes engagement on social media to promote homelessness.
