Rise’s Get Away Club celebrated it’s 20th year of operation this week!

Formed in 1997, the group aims to get active seniors out and enjoying Perth and surrounds.

Members range from 50 to 100 years and enjoy a variety of excursions, including overnight and longer stays.

20 year celebration

The 20 year anniversary of the club was marked with a morning tea at Wahroonga social centre in Mundaring.

Members came together to mark the occasions, viewing photo albums from past years. They also had fun finding their names on an embroidered tablecloth.

Current program planner Marilla Pierson said the group had around 40 members.

I often say how much I love my job. I get to work with the most friendly and fun-loving people you could work with.

Our next holiday is in September, a wildflower holiday up to Geraldton.

Get Away foundations

Sally Roberts was one of the founding members of the club. She also spoke of her happy memories of years past.

They are some of the happiest years. We had a lot of fun and did a lot of fun things.

The oldest member of the Get Away club is Vicky Turner at the ripe age of 99 years. We’re sure she has some tales to tell from past years!
