The Get Away members are active seniors who come from many different walks of life but all with similar goals, to socialise, make friends, visit interesting places and enjoy themselves. Members currently range in age from their 50s to late 90s.

The members have input into their program via a program planner who ensures she includes outings that are interesting as well as outings that are just a bit of fun to appeal to the broadest group.

Past examples of outings have included visiting the beach for a picnic or the Sculptures by the Sea, investigating the many museums including the Royal Perth Hospital Museum, Western Australian Maritime Museum and the Western Australian Museum. Members have visited Government House, toured the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), wandered through art galleries, gardens and re-fuelled at restaurants.

The members also arrange for at least one overnight get-away and sometimes plan their holidays in conjunction with the members of the social centres.

In addition to their reputation for being very friendly the Get Away members are also very welcoming. This year the membership has steadily grown and the coordinator reports “it’s lovely to see new members come to the club, not knowing anyone and before long they are well and truly part of the club.” Recently a new bus was purchased to accommodate the growth.

Get Away members have reported that club outings give them something to look forward to and the opportunity to socialise with like minded people and make friends.
