Maintaining good nutrition is essential to remaining independent. Rise staff understand there are barriers preventing the preparation of nutritious meals.

These may be as simple as no longer having the strength to use kitchen utensils such opening cans, chopping large vegetables and lifting heavy pots.

We also recognise that some people who live alone might enjoy the company of cooking alongside someone.

An innovative cooking program specially tailored for people suffering from memory loss at our social centres was recognised and presented at a National Alzheimer’s Conference.

Assistance with meal preparation could include any or all of the following:

  • Planning nutritious meals
  • Preparing ingredients for you to cook later
  • Cooking in bulk and freezing
  • Reheating and serving
