Originally known as NADOC (National Aborigines Day Observance Committee), the term NAIDOC stands for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’.
NAIDOC week celebrations are normally held across Australia to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s NAIDOC will be celebrated from 8 to 15 November 2020.
The 2020 theme for the NAIDOC week is Always Was, Always Will Be, recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. To read more about NAIDOC history, click here: https://www.naidoc.org.au/about/history
